The Kick Start Meeting for Bakeng se Afrika was hosted by the University of Pretoria, in Pretoria, South Africa from the 5th to the 8th of February 2019. Delegates from all seven partner institutions attended (see our partners here)
Various topics were discussed, including the storage and management of digital data, the establishment of an ethical framework for Bakeng se Afrika, the timeline of activities, financial management and administration of the grant. There was also a brainstorming session regarding possible research projects which will form the foundation of the data that will be committed to the database.
Thanks to Dr Dominic Stratford and Dr Amélie Beaudet from the University of the Witwatersrand, visitors from the EU and Stellenbosch University participated in a tour to Sterkfontein Caves in the Cradle of Humankind (World Heritage Site) and the Wits Origins Centre Museum.
